Landscape Photos

This week I had a lot of fun taking landscape photos. I had a hard time the first few days because it was really cloudy and snowing off and on. But this morning I woke up and had a blast because we got a big snow storm and everything looked gorgeous. Everything was covered in snow and was glistening in the early morning light. I got a lot of good shots right on my road and near my house. Unfortunately the snow melted faster than I wanted it to but it was still a lot of fun. I also had a lot of fun trying to find the perfect shot of Barre(where I am from)from the top of the hill. I have one picture that I really liked that I took but it was hard capturing the whole city looking down on it and capturing the real essence of what I was seeing. Although I had some difficulty, I had a blast trying to take as many good pictures as I could. These are a couple of my favorite photos that I took...I love the look of snow!

Assignment #2

The first thing that I did was find something to take a picture of on my campus. I chose this beautiful gazebo. I thought before I looked at the picture I would like the picture with the gazebo centered, I realized when I uploaded it I was wrong. I like the picture with the gazebo to the right side so that you get the entrance to the college building. It balances it out. I also like the picture with the gazebo to the side because the sky is brighter blue. This is because my picture wouldn't upload right so I had to retake it on a later time so it was a little darker. I think that some pictures look better with the object centered but some do not. This picture looks better with it off centered.

Compostion Techniques

A composition technique that I found that we did not learn about in the reading is patterns. You can take photos highlighting the patterns and you can take photos of patterns being broken.
Emphasizing the pattern by filling the frame will give the impression of size and large numbers. If you take a picture of bricks close up, it will make it look like the bricks will go on forever. You can also take a picture of a pattern that is interrupted. You should also pay attention to where in the picture the pattern is broken because it changes the emphasis of the picture and the objects in it. This is just one of the composition techniques that I found when researching.

These are the sites that I found the pattern research on--

Different Lighting Situations

For the second part of the photo assignment, we had to take a picture of something in different kinds of light. I thought that  this would be fun and I also tried to do this with a tree outside because that is trying to use natural light and not using the light inside your house. Unfortunately I had a hard time with this and everytime I wanted to take pictures it seemed to be cloudy. Even though the weather wasn't the best for this I saw the difference in lighting from when I did it in the morning, middle or the day, and around sunset. In the morning although it was cloudy the light was coming more from the back of the tree facing me taking the picture but like we saw or read in this weeks lesson the clouds created a blanket which created indirect light and spread it over the area instead of directing the sunlight into one spot where it would be more bright. In the middle of the day although still cloudy you can really see that the sun had come all the way up because the picture is much brighter because it is directly above the tree illuminating it better although still covered in clouds. In the last picture, the sun is setting and it is getting darker. The sun is coming from behind me taking the picture opposite of the first picture. With the sun coming from the different angles it accentuates different parts of the tree. In these pictures it is just very mild due to the cloudiness of the days. It would have been easier without the clouds. These pictures are in order from taking them in the morning, noon, and night. Sometime I would like to try this on a sunny day.

Color Schemes

For this weeks 1st assignment on color schemes. I decided to show complementary colors of red and green and then blue and orange. I had a lot of fun doing this with food. :)

For the second part of this assignment I chose to show analogous colors or red, orange, and yellow. These colors are all next to each other on the color wheel and are represented by peppers.

My other 5 views of the Cactus

My Two Views

I like this photo better of this cactus plant. I like how at this angle pointed up from near the base makes the plant seem very full and quite large from that angle. Have the angle looking up at the plant helps make the cactus looked enlarged instead of taking a picture looking down on it seeming very small. Taking the picture from this angle also made the leaves look dark and full because it is the underneath and close up. I also like this picture better because it is large and fills out the picture making it the center of attention unlike the second photo. This seems to be a more interesting view.

I think that this picture compared to the first one shows how different a plant can look at different angles. This picture was taken straight on and a little further away making the plant look small and insignificant. The light is coming through the window and lightened up the leaves making it a lighter green and making it look less dark and full like the first photo. This seems like an ordinary photo of a plain old houseplant (Actually residence hall plant) but when taking the picture at a different angle like the first then it more interesting and the focus of your attention when looking at the first photo. This photo you can see the plant but you can also see the bulletin board, table, and posters.
